Damocles Part 2

“One garden, two serpents. Eden never stood a chance.” -Octavia Blake

Review:

Damocles Part 2 brought many emotions to The 100 audience. Huge plot twists, major deaths, and surprises had fans on the edge of their seats throughout the 42 minute episode.

Madi and Octavia:

Though it was not a complete surprise that Madi took the flame and became commander, the episode kept the idea still up the in air until Wonkru’s defeat in the valley (Eden). When Madi showed up to join Wonkru in battle (before she took the flame) and Octavia bowed to her, this ended her control as Blodreina and gave Madi the role of Commander. Now, with Madi as commander, Wonkru followed her to the battle with Eligius IV, which resulted in their victory.

This moment allowed the audience to see Madi as a true leader which will set up her journey through season 6. Damocles part 2 also set up Octavia’s plot for season 6 which has been rumored to be difficult. Throughout the fifth season, fans have seen the troubles that Octavia had to face in the bunker which will define her story in the future season.

Murphy and Emori (Memori):

During the battle for Eden, Bellamy, Echo, Emori, and Murphy entered the battlefield first in an attempt to take out McCreary’s canons. The plane worked, but in the process Murphy was shot in the shoulder twice. Later in the episode when Monty and Harper were leading the wounded to the drop ship (to evacuate Earth), Murphy struggled to walk and appeared tired. When Harper decided to transport the rest of the wounded, leaving Monty, Emori, and Murphy behind, Murphy stated “[The drop ship] is too far. There’s not enough time.”

This statement crushed Murphy along with Memori fans. When the Damocles Part 2 trailer was released to fans, many speculated Murphy’s death because of the hint at this scene. So when he stated this, the audience members assumed he would be left behind and die. To the audience’s surprise, their predictions were wrong. Emori’s iconic line “Then I guess we’re both going to die because there’s no way in hell I’m leaving the man I love behind,” stunned fans and reissued hope for Memori moving forward.

Monty and Harper (Marper):

Monty and Harper influence on the ending of season 5 impacted fans the most and set up the plot of season 6. This relationship was one of the most underrated the show had seen. Their relationship began in season 2 at Mount Weather and has been in the shadows ever since. But, in Damocles Part 2 fans really saw how much they cared about each other. They shared a passionate kiss on their way to the drop ship (when Monty decided to stay behind for Murphy).

The last seen of the season really hit fans hard when it was revealed that they did not go into cryosleep. Bellamy and Clarke’s emotions that were present during Monty’s “life video” displayed how the rest of us were feeling. The news that Jordan was Monty and Harper’s son was the “shock of the season” for fans all across the fandom. It has been revealed that Bellamy and Clarke will take on the role of Uncle and Aunt (guardianship) over Jordan which will be a part of the plot throughout season 6.

Raven and Shaw (Zaven):

The day before Damocles Part 2 was released, the CW uploaded a sneak peek scene from the episode. This consisted of Paxton McCreary torturing Pilot Miles Zeke Shaw in front of Raven Reyes in attempt to “encourage” him in flying the drop ship back up into space. When Shaw refused, McCreary proceeded to use metal pliers to pull out the pilots teeth.

In the background you hear Raven screaming and begging for mercy as this torture continues. Still not budging, McCreary goes on to cut Shaw’s leg off. Before he can finish, Raven gave in and agreed to fly the ship to spare Shaw’s life. In an earlier episode, Raven admitted her feelings for Shaw and this scene displays how far she would go to protect him. This relationship, known to fans at Zaven, has been rumored to progress in the upcoming sesaon.

Diyoza:

Colonel Charmaine Diyoza poses one of the biggest questions moving into the next season: What will happen with her baby? The end of the season left us with her along with everyone else going into cryosleep. As we know she was pregnant with her daughter Hope before the fifth season which included a different 100 year period of cryosleep. With this information we know that a baby can survive in cryosleep and a pregnancy does not evolve during this time. Season 6 should bring many answers for fans about this ordeal.

Another question that has recently come up in the fandom is the “love triangle” that has appeared between Marcus Kane, Abby Griffin, and Diyoza. As of now, this plot point has been confirmed to surface in season 6. But, with Kane’s unfortunate situation, this issue may not materialize until the later episodes of the season.

Bellamy and Clarke (Bellarke):

Though my personal opinions on Bellarke are up in the air, many Bellarkers have hope for the ship going into the sixth season. The iconic scene outside of the drop ship where Bellamy states that he “can’t do that again” when referring to leaving his friends behind is a reference to him having to leave Clarke in the season 4 finale. The news that Clarke called Bellamy on the radio for 2,197 consecutive days also excited Bellarkers. This end of the fandom hopes that, now with Bellamy knowing how much Clarke cares for him, the ship will finally become a reality.

The ending scene where Bellamy and Clarke are the first two to wake up from cryosleep and are assigned the task to watch over Jordan and lead the group to the new planet solidified the idea of Bellarke for season 6. Unfortunately, though, for those fans it has been confirmed that Becho (Bellamy and Echo) will get a backstory as to their relationship as a whole. Season 6 may be a rough ride for fans of Bellarke if Becho continues to develop.
